The idea is simple, for every organic cotton mask that you purchase, etee will donate one to a community in need. Our first partner is a local hospital that is requesting masks for visitors and non-essential workers.
Jen - featured left - was the first team member to suggest we use our excess fabric to make masks. She also researched the pattern and sewed the first batch of 200. She's an awesome woman and a key member of etee's production team. Since the Covid-crisis she's been staying home a couple days a week to help with her kids and so this sewing project is one way she can stay involved while this crisis continues.
Our masks are made by etee in the Greater Toronto Area, so you can rest assured that we adhere to the highest standards of manufacturing, quality and fair treatment for everyone involved.
There has been a lot of debate about mask wearing - some scientific and some cultural. The opinions vary depending on the Country of origin, but recently, western experts are starting to embrace the idea of using masks or cloth face coverings. And while N95 'medical' grade masks should be reserved for front line healthcare workers, cotton masks such as these are gaining support in helping to flatten the curve, particularly for people who are sick, but don't have symptoms..
"Writing last month, Adrien Burch, an expert in microbiology at the University of California, noted that "despite hearing that face masks 'don't work,' you probably haven't seen any strong evidence to support that claim. That's because it doesn't exist. In fact, there is evidence of the exact opposite: that masks help prevent infections...."
Based on the research, face masks are much more likely to help than to hurt," according to Burch. "Even if it's just a homemade cloth mask, if you wear it correctly and avoid touching it, the science suggests that it won't hurt you and will most likely reduce your exposure."(CNN, James Griffiths, April 1, 2020)
What's more: "The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is now advising Americans to voluntarily wear a basic cloth or fabric face mask when they go out to help curb the spread...” (Los Angeles Times, April 3, 2020)
I love this company and its products, so I am not at all surprised they are making masks and donating them. Ordering now.
You are leading the way for others to follow... while using fabric that stands by the etee principals, the everyone-touches-everyone-else values of helping each other are being proven with your donation program, generously done at 1:1. I know that I’m making the right choice by buying what I need through a company I can stand behind.
Thank you for stepping up and making these and donating as well. PLEASE PLEASE make sure that these masks have a pocket for a filter if needed.
For every mask purchased, etee will donate a mask to a North American Community in need.

Put the mask on and take it off by holding the elastics. Avoid touching the front of the mask, and avoid touching it while it’s on your face. Insert a filter of your choice (this is optional, but does offer additional protection). Be careful not to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth when removing your mask. If you inserted a disposable filter, be sure to remove it before placing your mask directly in the washing machine, and wash your hands! Hang your mask in a clean, dry place to air dry.
