It's easy to get caught up in all the 'bad stuff' oil execs are doing, so when good news stories like this pop up, I think it's important to highlight it.
Because Curtis Shuck, a former oil executive, appears to be pouring his life savings into cleaning up abandoned or 'ORPHAN OIL WELLS'. And there are MILLIONS of them scattered across the USA.

"There are estimated to be more than 3.5 million orphan wells [across the United States]. According to the Environmental Defense Fund, around 120,000 are documented. They threaten wildlife and marine habitats, poison drinking water supplies, and increase flood risks near coastal areas.
Heavy metal leakage is another problem associated with leaving these wells unsealed, but by simply plugging them, you can stop the problem.
And that is just what Shuck is doing with his organization The Well Done Foundation.
Building on the theme that there is no them, only us, I love to see examples of people like Shuck taking the initiative and responsibility to clean up something they have contributed to - and profited from.
And it's not 'sexy' work. But I think it's a big deal because accountability is so critical right now and it must have taken a big shift for Shuck to take responsibility for the industry he worked in for so long.
