So like I said, we're really excited about this 100% plastic free laundry detergent packaging. And if it works for our LD, we'll probably transition it to all our powders.
But it sweats like a marathon runner in 30 degree sun, meaning the bag will have some minor grease marks.
So my question to you, is if you were walking through the grocery store aisle and saw this, would it put you off / think there's something wrong with it?
FYI, tin and aluminum is a no go for us.

Would You Care if Your Laundry Detergent Sweat Through the Bag?

I would be worried that it would leave makes in my wooden and painted shelves and drawers.
Now that I understand I have no problem with that and would buy it.
Since it has been explained to me, I would have no problem purchasing the product and I am very glad that you are making the switch to get rid of all the plastic. Unfortunately, I think many people would shy away from a package that may look different, however, I think that they are the same people that are going to stick with big brands anyways. By the way, I really like the product but I had some reservations about the zip closure, now it’s problem solved!
When buying mail order, and knowing why it’s happening I’d say it’s no problem. But if you put in on a store shelf my guess is that people will resist buying it for the same reason people avoid less than perfect fruit and veges. You’re heart is in the right place, but it’s a heavy lift to get people on board. Have you thought about doing sheets instead of powder?
I would have no problem buying on-line as I love your product and store it in a tin container I have had for years. Having a blurb of explanation on the package might be encouraging to new Customers looking at store-shelf, but I would be cautious, I think I would ignore if I was new to your products, and walk by.
Now that you’ve explained it, it wouldn’t bother me at all. So, as others have indicated, a little note on or near the bag would do the trick for anyone interested in plastic-free products.
This is a great idea, Steve – I love it! If I saw it on the grocery store shelf, I would be curious and would read about it because I’m always attracted to plastic free products. If there was a sign, or a large notice on the label explaining that the sweating is normal and doesn’t affect the product, then I would 100% buy it . Online, I’d buy it too, and as a matter of fact, I already do buy your laundry detergent, and love it!
“PLASTIC FREE means we SWEAT a little” in a speech bubble…would explain it well enough for me. Simple explanation, no impact on product quality or longevity…. I think most conscientious buyers will go for it! Great work, always pushing the envelop into more eco-friendly packaging.
I don’t mind the “sweating” while buying online but I would likely bypass if on the shelf in a store.
What’s the feasibility of putting it in glass jars (Mason or Ball style)? Glass is easier to recycle/reuse and, in my house, there’s no such thing as too many glass jars. In fact, I have been storing ALL my etee products in glass jars I saved anyway Perhaps sell the product in paper packaging as “refills”?? Or… can you make biopods (like you use for the floor cleaner, etc) big enough to hold the powders? I am just brainstorming on the fly here.
Sorry to say that but yes, I would be suspicious if the bag looks dirty. Be careful, the packaging is a very important point in a decision to buy or not for any consumer .
