Leave No Mess Behind
Our mission was simple, develop a detergent that whitens and brightens as well as the household brands, but without leaving any plastic in our landfills or waterways. This meant we had to forego a commonly found material known as PVA.
PVA is a petroleum derived, DISSOLVABLE plastic used to bind 'laundry sheets' and wrap 'laundry pods'. In our research it was unclear how long it takes PVA to decompose, but according to one study out of NewCastle University (that researched ingested plastic by deep sea creatures) remnants of PVA is showing up in the bellies of sea creatures:
"The fragments identified include... polyvinyls closely resemblingpolyvinyl alcoholor polyvinylchloride -PVA and PVC."(The Economic Times)
Super Concentrated Laundry Detergent
Our solution to the PVA dilemma was to take an old technology - laundry powder - and give it a modern boost by concentrating it so that you only need one teaspoon for lighter loads, and 1 tablespoon for heavier loads. 1 tablespoon of our detergent weighs about 12g, vs. a typical liquid pod, which weighs on average 23g.
THE RESULT? LESS SHIPPING WASTE, fully biodegrable packaging without having to compromise on cleaning power.

ALL PACKAGED USING THE OMNIDEGRADABLE® SOLUTION
Packaging is important to us. We knew we needed something that would decompose everywhere - the Ocean, landfills and out in nature - while also protecting the product itself from the elements (water, humidity, etc). That's why we partnered up with our friends over at TEKPAK Solutions. They have paper packaging lined with a plastic that preserves, protects AND decomposes - everywhere - which is why they call it 'Omnidegradable'. Their product is engineered with the use of a completely organic additive, which in the presence of microbes, create an enzyme that breaks down the long-chain molecules of the plastic. This allows the microbes to then consume the plastic. After 10 years of testing, they can make just about any type of packaging Omnidegradable® – resealable pouches, zippered bags and even bags with off-gassing valves.
Etee have lovely products that love our planet! I am especially enamored by the deep conditioner for hair it smells absolutely delicious! Highly recommended to support such wonderful products while saving the environment.
I have used this item for a very long time and it is great.
I really like the packaging compared to plastic bottles! We do not have any types of recycling so plastic causes a lot of issues. I’m wondering if the paper packaging can go into the compost pile? I’m also wondering if the PLASTIC zip lock is really needed, and a new type/design of closing the top could be used… ANY Plastic is plastic that will not compost back to soil.
First time using the detergent it did not seem like just a TEASPOON would be enough but I only used the teaspoon, washed the towels and I was surprised that they did seem to be clean! I have not tried the detergent on deep soiled pants and shirts yet but I am looking forward to the first “trial run” to see how well the detergent will work.
Thanks so much for the feedback Tom. I agree re: packaging still needs work. The current packaging - including the 'plastic zipper' - is what the company refers to as 'omnidegradable', meaning it can biodegrade even in anaerobic settings (like landfills). So you could technically put it in your backyard compost pile, but it would take a year or more to decompose. You can read more about it here: https://tekpaksolutions.com/. The other option we're exploring is a good 'ol cardboard box, which we will likely switch to shorty.
Easy to use. Easy on my skin and my skin is generally irritated with most detergents. Clothes clean and fresh.
Thank you Cindy! We're glad to hear that our detergent is being extra kind to your sensitive skin!
Our household is two senior citizens so we just need laundry detergent that gets our clothes clean; neither of us get very dirty! But given that, this detergent gets our clothes nice and clean in the cold water wash we usually use, and our towels as well in warm water wash, and the white washcloths I use instead of paper towels which get washed in hot water. And I love the packaging!
I love, love, love supporting etee by purchasing plastic-free products! One I have bought repeatedly is the laundry powder. Just one little teaspoon thoroughly cleans each load. I don’t have to “lug the jug” back from a store and I’m not buying those crazy-colorful plastic pods anymore. Thank you, etee! I want to buy this product for everyone.
Ummm Kathy, are you a copywriter? Because you just wrote our next ad...
'small package BIG clean'
'lug the jug'
This is GOLD Jerry (Kathy) Goooold!
Thanks so much for the support.
I've been using this detergent since etee first introduced it. My clothes smell clean and are clean! Love that when the bag is empty I can recycle it - no plastic!!!
While it has taken me a bit of time to adjust to unscented laundry - it is a good thing to adjust to. The laundry comes out clean and I like the concentrated formula and not having to use too much per load. Have bought more!
I have tried other eco-friendly detergents, but my clothes looked dingy after a while. I’m on my third bag of Etee and the clothes still look great.
I have tried many different eco detergents and this is my favorite. Super sustainable and gentle on my very sensitive skin. Thank you!!
